Run out of runs

Welshpool have found themselves in an early season relegation battle after finding runs hard to come by once again at the weekend.

Pool could only manage 105 after being put into bat at Beacon in Division One, with the hosts knocking them off for the loss of three wickets.

Montgomery returned from Bishops Castle with 20 points in Division Two despite finding runs hard to come by. After being put in, Monty could only manage 112, but the hosts collapsed to 91 all out with Andrew Barker (3-4 off 10) and Aaron Ruff-Cock (3-24) in sublime form with the ball.

Promotion chasing Guilsfield suffered a set-back in Division Four despite setting a decent target of 175 for hosts Bridgnoth III to chase.

Sam Griffiths (43) and Bobby Gill (32) did their bit with the bat, but the track suited the host batsmen too who reached victory with five wickets down and overs to spare.

Llanidloes slumped to a heavy defeat at Trysull & Seisdon who posted 198-8. But 10-man Llani could only muster 113.

Despite a brilliant bowling performance, Newtown suffered a disappointing defeat at Bomere Heath to land at the bottom of the Premier Division.

Tom Anderson and Ally Laird took three wickets each as Newtown dismissed the Shropshire side for just 102 runs.

But the top order collapsed in reply, and despite a mid-order rally from Jack Morris (24) and skipper Sam Cooke (19), Newtown fell short on just 86.

In the reserve leagues, Montgomery II had to chase 203 runs against league leaders and reigning champions Worfield. Jonathan Williams took 3-28 and Tom Hughes bagged 4-28.

In response Monty were all out for 93 with only Williams (25) scoring runs of note.

Greg Jones smashed 55 as Welshpool II picked up plenty of points at home to Iscoyd and Fenns Bank. The all-rounder’s knock and 37 from Nick Roberts boosted Welshpool total to 174, proving too much for the visitors who were restricted to 138-6, with Jones bagging three wickets.
