Prepare to be stunned!
Welshpool swimmer Dan Jones (right) has literally rewritten the swimming record books on his own this week.
The 14 year-old competed in 12 events over two weekends and picked up 12 gold medals in the process. Not only that, the six-footer also set new records for all the events he won, a feat that has stunned the sport’s statisticians.
The youngster was competing in the Shropshire Age Group Championships in distances ranging between 100m-1500m in different disciplines and proved unstoppable, winning every event and smashing records that dated back to 2003.
“He was awarded the Shropshire Star Record Breaker Trophy for this achievement and as far as the officials can trace, no swimmer has ever broken every record for every event before,” said proud mum Tracy Jones.
His times have qualified him for every event at the Midland Championships in Coventry in June, and he has seven GB qualifying times so far for the GB National age group championships in Sheffield in July.
And the talent runs through the family too as younger brother Morgan (left) is starting to make a name for himself too.
The 10 year-old competed at the same championships and achieved three bronze medals for his age group in 200m free, 200m back and 400m free. He also qualified to swim at the Midland Championships for the 100m and 200m back stroke for the first time.
It is an incredible achievement for the family who may now have to think about having an extension built onto their home – not for a swimming pool but to build a new trophy room!
