Town enter the last chance saloon

Technogroup Welshpool face a win-at-all-costs Saturday with defeat confirming the club’s second consecutive releagion.

 

In one of the most difficult seasons in the club’s history which has seen them appoint three managers and docked points for administration hiccups, the final nail in the coffin could be hammered if they go down to fellow strugglers Rhydymwyn.

 

But despite the gloom descending on Maesydre, manager Chris Herbert remains ever-positive.

 

“It will be our strongest squad yet,” he said: “The lads can’t wait for it; we have had a week off so the lads are now desperate to get back and start winning games again. I’ve got Mike Sawtell, Calvin Davies, Jack Pickering and Sean Kilgannon all returning to the squad.

 

Despite the club’s woes, Herbert has made a name for himself by recruiting a strong side which has made a fight of it and his progress is being monitored by rival clubs who may be tempted to pounce in the summer. The boss however has said he is happy at Welshpool and hopes to be in the hot seat next season.

 

Guilsfield will be hoping that Welshpool do them a favour by taking points of Rhydymwyn.

 

Boss Russell Cadwallader is once again missing key players for the visit of leaders Rhyl and was forced to give his weary squad a week off after last week’s 5-0 drubbing at Porthmadog.

 

“The lads have given everything recently and last Saturday we have to hold our hand up and admit to being very tired and well beaten,” he said.

 

Cadwallader will again shuffle his pack due to Rob Cookson (suspended) joining brothers Joe and Tom Coulson on the sidelines. Chris Roberts and Graham McGill return.

 

 

Llanrhaeadr will hope that Division One title rivals Berriew and Llanidloes will share the Friday night spoils as they again miss out on league action with a Cup match at home to Kerry.

 

Llanrhaeadr assistant boss Jamie Davies came out this week to say the fixture backlog could cost his side the title and despite the signing of Spanish midfielder Boris Martinez, he will be hoping his small squad avoids injuries against the division two high-flyers.

 

Also in the cup, Waterloo Rovers go to Bont while Division Two title favourites Montgomery host Newbridge. Llansantffraid Village go to Penparcau and Meifod host Bow Street.

 

In Division One, Dyffryn Banw return to league action when they host Aberystwyth University.

 

Four Crosses are without the injured Paul Bache and unavailable Steve Tomkins for the visit of Llandrindod Wells in Division Two, while Abermule look to pep up their fading campaign at home to promotion candidates Rhosgoch. Llanfair United travel to Tregaron Turfs.
