In-form Pool win opener

The North Wales League division two rugby season kicked off on Saturday with wins for Welshpool, Newtown and Llanidloes.

Welshpool built on their Mid Wales Shield win the week before to edge past a young but powerful Teirw Nant side 3-0, but their opponents this Saturday, COBRA, were beaten at Newtown.

With players missing due a wedding, COBRA faced a well organised Newtown unit who ran out 8-3 winners with a late show. After Will Worthington had kicked the Meifod men into a half-time lead, Newtown finished strongly with a late try, followed by a penalty to secure the points.

Llanidloes were in superb form, winning 45-7 at Abergele with winger Carwyn Jones scoring a hat-trick.
