Cup break for Alliance sides

Our local Huws Gray Alliance clubs both hit the road this weekend looking to build a run in the league cup.

Guilsfield overcame neighbours Llanrhaeadr 5-0 last week and will be looking for more of the same at Ruthin, while Llanrhaeadr will want to bounce back at Conwy.

Tonight, Newtown head to Deeside hoping to quickly put a 3-0 defeat behind them last week and catch up with the JD Welsh Premier early season pace setters.

Newtown are at full strength for Connah’s Quay Nomads, with Craig Williams returning after suspension while Jake Cook hopes to shake off a foot injury.

Caersws have re-signed Rhydian Davies from Penrhyncoch ahead of their FAW Trophy second round encounter with Brecon Northcote tonight.

Tonight’s fixtures set up a cracking weekend of action with the FAW Trophy featuring local derbies including Churchstoke taking on Montgomery Town and Dyffryn Banw squaring up to Abermule. Berriew entertain Kerry in a MMP Mid Wales League encounter, and Welshpool Town head down to Radnor Valley.

There’s also a busy weekend for the Amateur League sides with holders Guilsfield Reserves getting things underway in the Village Cup tonight against Churchstoke Reserves.
