Justin Williams has clinched the Winter League at Welshpool Golf Club after the final round was played in glorious weather this weekend.
Williams came through to take the title by one point, ahead of Mike Williams in second and Graham Moss in third. Gary Courtney was fourth.
On Sunday, the winter’s final Rabbits & Tigers medal competition was won by Martin Ward and Ian Spencer on 42. Dave Rowlands and Mark Proctor (43) were second with Nick Jones and Dave Read edged out on the countback.
Welshpool Ladies got their season off to a great start with a 4-1 victory over Glynneath ladies at Builth Wells in the Welsh Team Championships. They now play Machynys in the next round.
Lakeside
The penultimate week of both Winter Leagues were contested at the weekend with competition fierce in both nett and gross championships.
Kevin Lewis (18) continued his fine form to secure top spot in the nett league with 36 points, just edging Club Captain Brad Willetts (15) into runners-up with a fine 35 and better countback from Pete Philpott (28) in third.
Past Captain Gary McKay secured top honours in the gross division with 30 points, with Willetts and Charlie Brown taking 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
This weekend see’s the Club host the Anderson Challenge Trophy, the first of this season’s main competitions. Entries are still being taken for, with the close for entries 5pm on Friday. This event will be played as an 18-hole Stableford competition with a shotgun start at 10am.
