Welshpool lost one of its great characters on Friday, but his beloved Town football club paid the best tribute possible by beating cross-town rivals Waterloo Rovers on Friday night.
The news of staunch clubman, Geoff Jones, passing away trickled through shortly before the MMP Mid Wales League Cup match, and both sets of players paid a touching tribute with a minute’s silence before kick-off.
And his team did their bit, beating Rovers 5-1 with Will Thomas scoring a hat-trick.
Elsewhere, there were wins for Llansantffraid Village, Hay St Mary’s and Llandrindod Wells.
