Guilsfield A take President’s Cup

15/10/2018 @ 11:14

The Montgomeryshire and District Airgun League held its annual curtain raiser which saw Guilsfield A lift the President’s Cup.

In a top class night of shooting, last season’s League runners-up overcame Arddleen to take the title and then took that form into the opening league match of the season with a 206.8-199.5 victory over Castle Caereinion, despite Richard Morgan scoring the match’s only possible (35.4).

Arddleen bounced back with a narrow defeat over Crew Green A despite being a shooter down. League President, Martin Pearce (Arddleen), and CGA’s Edward Kelton set the bar, scoring 35.5 and 35.7 apiece. Exciting, accurate and consistent shooting was the story of the evening, with the final tally showing 208.6-203.7 to Arddleen.

Crew Green B started their campaign strongly with a narrow 201-200 win over Guilsfield B, with brothers Adam and Joe Hilditch both scoring possibles (a possible being 35.0 or above with all shots scoring 5 or 5.1). A gritty defence by Guilsfield B’s D. Edwards (35.1) couldn’t quite hold them off.

Churchstoke won 206.3-192.4 at Forden with both teams showing some early season promise.

Opening night Possibles were scored by D. Edwards (GB, 35.1), Adam Hilditch (CGB, 35.2), Joe Hilditch (CGB35.3), Richard Lewis (Arddleen, 35.4), Richard Morgan (Castle Caereinion, 35.4), Edward Kelton (CGA, 35.4) and Martin Pearce (Arddleen, 35.4), thus continuing the exceptional standard of shooting shown in the Montgomeryshire and District Airgun League.

This season has also seen a change to the scoring. Shooters can now score 4.5 for a shot that touches the bull rather than the more traditional 4. The maximum score achievable continues to be a 35.7 for all shooters.

Match Of The Week – The close encounter between Crew Green B and Guilsfield B; narrow margins of victory can have huge ramifications as the season progresses.

Shooter Of The Week – Chloe Jones, of Forden, who shot more than four points over her average for last season.  Keep it up, Chloe.
