Two of the Montgomeryshire and District Airgun League’s big shots squared off in the second round of league action.
Guilsfield A and Arddleen are two of the favourites for the title, so the latter will be celebrating an early season advantage following a superb 207.2-202.0 victory that included some top class shooting.
Captain, Richard Lewis, showed that talent certainly doesn’t rust, clocking a fantastic score of 35.6.
The Caereinion derby saw hosts Castle Caereinion overcoming their neighbours Llanfair Caereinion by nine points, despite only having six shooters (normally a team of seven counts only the six highest scores of the evening, dropping the lowest score from the standings).
Crew Green A shot confidently to beat Forden. David Riley’s team have stepped up a gear over the off-season, however, CGA always provide a solid display and continue to take care of business efficiently, winning the match 201.5-195.4.
Guilsfield B produced a superlative performance against Newtown, bettering their match average of last season by almost 12 points. The final pairing of P. Edwards and Tabitha Corbett provided a brace of excellent possibles (35.1 and 35.4 respectively) to win 206.0-198.7.
Crew Green B travelled to Churchstoke with fire in their bellies and made their intentions clear from the off. The league champions had to work hard to maintain a lead and although the match finished in Churchstoke’s favour (205.3-201.7), one gets the impression that CGB will break the 200-point barrier regularly this season.
Despite some high team scores this week there were only four possibles shot: Guilsfield B’s P. Edwards (35.1), Castle Caereinion’s Richard Morgan, Newtown’s Tabitha Corbett (35.4 each) and Arddleen’s Richard Lewis (35.6).
Match Of The Week – Guilsfield B vs Newtown. Jo Beaumond’s team shot so far above their previous season’s average that there can be no other contender.
Shooter Of The Week – This can only be Richard Lewis, of Arddleen, who was 0.1 points from a perfect score.
