11/11/2018 @ 10:00

Welshpool teenager Max Williams has joined up with the Wales U16 football squad to travel out to Ireland today for the Victory Shield.

The 15-year-old goalkeeper, who made his Wales debut earlier this year, will be a part of the squad taking on Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland in Tralee, County Kerry.

Max has been on Wrexham’s books for the past five years, but this season he has also been training with Salford City, the club part owned by Wales manager Ryan Giggs.

“I am really looking forward to joining the squad and playing in the Victory Shield,” said Max. “I have stepped up my training over the past few weeks to be in the best shape possible and hope that we can bring home some Welsh wins.”

Wales will kick off their campaign against Scotland on Monday, followed by matches against Ireland on Wednesday and Northern Ireland on Friday. All matches have a 1pm kick off.

Wales last won the Victory Shield in 2015 when current Wales sensation Ethan Ampadu was captain.
