Welshpool Ladies Hockey Club celebrated their first win of the season on Saturday in some style.
Three games without a win left Welshpool in the North Wales Hockey League danger zone, but a fine performance secured a 4-1 win over Caernarfon.
An early goal from Sarah Andrews gave Pool the lead before Caernarfon pulled level after a lapse in concentration. Welshpool fought back and regained the lead before the interval and then Sarah Thomas and Jade Evans added second half goals to move them into mid-table. Alex Cawthra was named player of the match.
Llanfair, meanwhile, moved second with a hard-earned 3-2 win over Dysynni. Delyth Thomas, Ffion Lewis and Mary Griffiths scored the goals.
It was Newtown’s turn to face leaders Ardudwy, and they found themselves on the end of a 4-1 defeat against a team that has comfortably won all four of their matches to date.
