Berriew tighten title grip

30/03/2011 @ 01:02

Berriew have opened up a 12-point gap at the top of the Spar Division One after an impressive 4-1 victory over Llanrhaeadr.

Neil Pryce’s men bounced back from a poor weekend showing to tighten their grip at the top with two goals in each half to overwhelm visiting Llanrhaeadr under the Berriew lights.

Marc Jones’s corner was headed into the net by a visiting defender after 20 minutes and three minutes before the break, Ian Jones scored after a corner was half cleared.

Berriew continued their stranglehold on the match in the second period when man-of-the-match Ian Probert found the net from 25 yards to make it 3-0. Will Thomas then saw his cross deflected in for a second own goal for a fourth before Llanrhaeadr earned a consolation in the final period.

Berriew have played more games than chasing Llanidloes and Llanrhaeadr but with fixtures coming thick and fast, the victory will underline their position as title favourites.
