COBRA and Newtown continue to be strongly placed for WRU North Wales Division Two promotion after weekend victories.

Newtown got the better of neighbours Welshpool 33-11 with a strong showing in the final quarter after Welshpool had taken the lead early in the second half.

Welshpool took the lead through a Harry Davies penalty before Gaz Williams levelled with one of his own and then the hosts went ahead through a converted Ben Squibb try.

Tom Williams drop-kicked Welshpool back into contention before Ryan Goodwin put them ahead 11-10 soon after the break.

But Williams kicked three penalties and then a penalty try and a converted try from Jack Bennett secured the spoils.

COBRA remain top after an 83-0 victory at home to struggling Bangor.

Jack Jukes (four), Richard Jones (three), Iolo White (two), Iwan Vaughan, Rhodri Evans, Lee Hughes and Will Worthington all touched down to complete the rout with Worthington adding adding nine conversions.

Llanidloes went down 80-12 at Rhyl.
