Welshpool returned to winning ways with a comfortable 22-7 victory at Bangor in the WRU North Wales League Division Two.
Harry Davies led the charge with a pair of tries, with Joe Stranks and Rhys Williams also scoring to secure the vital points.
But it wasn’t a good day for Newtown who missed out on the chance to close on leaders Cobra, who were not in action, after going down 23-22 at Rhyl. Tries came from Jac Benyon-Thomas (2), Ashley Paget and Dewi Bowen, whose late score gave Newtown a chance to win but he couldn’t make the conversion.
Llanidloes also returned to winning ways with a 17-0 win over Colwyn Bay.
The local ladies’ teams are in form in the Game On North Wales Women’s League.
Cobra are on target for the title after fighting back to win 17-14 over Abergele on Sunday. Ffion Williams, Fiona Moss and Grace Hill scored the tries.
Welshpool returned from Anglesey with a 44-0 win over Holyhead. Disa Manuel and Jaya Whittingham bagged two each, while Ellie Davies, Courtney Jones, Natalie Higgins and Hannah Ricketts also scored.
