Cobra close in on title

Cobra are working hard to secure the WRU Division Two (North) title after digging deep to win 17-10 at Rhyl on Saturday.

The hosts had been the league’s form team going into the clash, with an unbeaten run of nine matches, but Cobra have their eye on the title and put in a cracking shift.

The Meifod men took the lead early on with a converted try, but the hosts hit back with an unconverted try of their own before Cobra added three more points from a penalty for a narrow five-point lead at the turn.

Rhyl, unbeaten at their new ground, responded well after the break with a try to pull level, but just when a deadlock seemed likely, Cobra crashed over for the winning converted try to remain six points clear of Wrexham at the top.

Meanwhile, Llanidloes pulled clear of Welshpool in a mid-table battle which saw the hosts run out 32-22 winners, earning a bonus point in the process.
