Leaders stunned in MMP League

24/02/2019 @ 09:02

The chase for the MMP Mid Wales League has been thrown wide open after leaders Llanidloes Town were beaten at Llansantffraid.

The Daffs have proved unbeatable this year but came up against a hard working Llansantffraid side who were good value for their 3-0 win.

As Llanidloes lost, their main rivals Caersws, Llanfair United and Berriew all won to close the gap with The Bluebirds winning 6-0 at Churchstoke, Llanfair winning 4-1 at home to Llandrindod Wells and Berriew edging past Bow Street with a 1-0 verdict. There were also wins for Welshpool Town and Carno.

Montgomery Town are now 14 points clear at the top of Division Two after beating their nearest rivals Hat St Mary’s 3-0 in their final home game of the season, which sees them remain unbeaten on home turf in the league.

In the ER Jenkins Cup, Abermule, Four Crosses, Newbridge-on-Wye and Rhayader are through to the semi-finals.

Montgomeryshire’s Huws Gray Alliance sides continued their good form with Guilsfield winning 4-1 at Holyhead Hotspur and Llanrhaeadr unlucky to return from Gresford with just a point.

Guilsfield Reserves crashed out of the Emrys Morgan Cup at Penpracau but Bishop’s Castle will fly the amateur league flag into the semi-finals after beating Trefonon on penalties.

Amateur League division two leaders Llanrhaeadr Reserves extended their advantage at the top with a win, but Welshpool Town Reserves dropped off the pace after going down 5-0 at Newtown Wanderers.
