Berriew lifted the Central Wales FA Cup for the first time in the club’s history yesterday.

Berriew won a penalty shoot-out against Llanrhaeadr after the game ended 3-3 in normal time and both sides goalless in extra time.

The result was revenge for the Montgomeryshire Cup Final defeat against the Huw Gray Alliance side on Wednesday and sparked Berriew Manager Dave Jones to say: “I am very proud to be part of the first Berriew side to win the Central Wales Cup.

“Two tough games against Huws Gray Alliance side Llanrhaeadr this week with neither game particularly good for the heart rate. We lost out narrowly on Wednesday, and today conceding with 40 seconds of injury time left and hitting both posts with our first penalty in the shootout it looked like lady luck was against us yet again.
This lot don’t give up though, and I think most reasonable people would agree it would have been a travesty if these boys hadn’t had some silverware for the way they have played this season.”

The Huws Gray Alliance side had stormed into a 2-0 lead only for Berriew to pull one back before the break and then net twice in two minutes with 15 to go. Llanrhaeadr then netted an injury time equaliser.

Extra time produced no more goals and with Llanrhaeadr missing three penalties the trophy went to Berriew.
