‘Impossible to trust Welsh Pyramid’

12/04/2011 @ 10:24

Guilsfield manager Russell Cadwallader has warned the club not to trust the Welsh pyramid system and to go all out for three points against local rivals Technogroup Welshpool tonight.

And to spice the match up, Town boss Chris Herbert says that while he has full respect for his rivals as well as Cadwallader, he is confident that his side will win the local bragging rights.

Guilsfield have saved their best run of form until late in the season but still find themselves amidst a bottom-end pack that could all face relegation if issues of who goes up and who goes down do not favour them.

Ahead of the massive match, here’s what the men in charge told mywelshpool.

Russell Cadwallader, Guilsfield:

“We will be treating it the same as any other game because we’re still desperate for the points. I won’t allow anyone to relax because of a couple of wins. It’s vital that we push on and finish as high up the table as possible as it is impossible to trust the Welsh Pyramid system. We haven’t played well recently but the attitude has been excellent with a real spirit shown throughout the club. The reserves made an excellent contribution against Rhydymwyn on Saturday. Rob Cookson and Graham McGill will return to the squad tonight.

“Obviously there are a lot of issues surrounding Welshpool at the moment. It was a club I was proud to manage and I just hope there’s a bit of stability off the pitch and the club regains some pride. Chris seems to have attracted some quality players, and if he stays in the job I am sure they will be able to regain their place in the Cymru Alliance where they belong as the more Mid Wales clubs there are the better it is for the area.”

Chris Herbert, Technogroup Welshpool:

“It was a very good point on Saturday at Penrhyncoch and I felt we deserved a bit more. We only had 12 men and it could have easily gone pair shaped, but the lads stepped up to the plate and we really battled and created chances. I was very impressed with Jamie Breese on his debut. All in all though I was happy with the point.

“It’s great to be involved with such a big local derby against Guilsfield at this stage of the season as we have got nothing to lose. Guilsfield have been in fine form of late and will be expected to win the game so it is up to us to start the game well and make it hard for them. I am struggling massively with injuries, we are going there with seven reserves and I’m missing Chris Melia, Wes Kilgannon, Dave Swanick, Dan Barnett, Sean Kilgannon, Jack Pickering, Mike Sawtell, Calvin Davies and Josh Hartrick. I’ll probably be playing myself at centre half with only skipper John Keegan available out of all our usual defenders.

“We will be going there desperate for the three points and this game is going to give the lads from the reserves a real chance to prove they are good enough to make the step up. I will be bringing in striker Luke Weaver after he scored five goals for the reserves. He can be a real handful and bully defenders. Defenders don’t like playing against people like him, so hopefully he will get us some goals and win us the game. We will be going there with 3 points in mind and make a real game of it.”
