Wins for Guilsfield, Newtown

Opening bowler David Anthony produced miserly figures of 4-8 off seven overs to inspire Newtown to a 29-run win over Alberbury in Shropshire Division One.

The pace bowler led the Newtown reply to restrict Alberbury to just 104-6 from their reduced 35 overs after posting 133-6 to chase. Tom Foulkes had earlier top scored with the bat for Newtown with 45.

Montgomery and Welshpool’s Division Two games were cancelled but Guilsfield continued their fine all-round form in Division Six, beating Pontesbury II to stay in touch at the top.

There were half centuries for Sam Griffiths (57) and Duncan Todd (53) as Guilsfield chalked up a credible 166 with the game reduced to 30 overs.

The bowling reply was tight with wickets shared across seven bowlers as Guilsfield cruised to a 44-run victory.

Llanidloes, meanwhile, claimed victory to stay top after Forton II didn’t travel for their Division Seven fixture.
