Berriew manager Dave Jones has convinced his brother Jon to sign for the Rhiewsiders as they make a determined bid for the title next season.

The 30-year-old joins following a three-and-a-half-year stint with Holywell in the Huws Gray Alliance, and will add vast experience and strength to the talented young squad which fell five points short of the top this season.

Jones, who spent time with Chester City, Wrexham and Shrewsbury Town as a youth, started his senior career with Welshpool Town in the Welsh Premier League before transferring to Caersws and amassing over 50 appearances in the top flight.

A successful four-year period followed in the Alliance with Guilsfield, where the club won the Huws Gray League Cup and Central Wales Cup.

After leaving Guilsfield in August 2013, a move to England followed to play for Winsford United in the North West Counties Premier Division where he spent two years before moving to Holywell Town in October 2015.

Manager David Jones said: “I am delighted that we have managed to secure the signing of Jon, which represents a major coup for the club and a massive boost for our young side.

“We have sometimes been accused of lacking in terms of physical and aerial strength, as well as experience and sometimes not being streetwise enough, however Jon will bring all of those qualities to the team in abundance whilst also being comfortable on the ball which is essential for the way we play.

“I also believe this shows our intention to build on our outstanding season last term and to challenge for honours again next season.”
