Golf clubs basking under sunshine

  

 

The third round of the midweek nine-hole summer league attracted nearly 40 players with Gareth Nicholes (22) returning an excellent 20 points for top spot. He edged out Seniors Captain Jim Knight (17) and Garry Jones into runners-up and third place respectively on the countback after all shot the same score. The results of the gross league were: 1^st Knight, 2^nd Connor Parry, 3^rd Gareth Nicholes.

 

The April Monthly Medal was won by newcomer Leon Duvalier (28) with a scintillating eight-under nett 60. A very tight finish between the ladies resulted in Susan Westwood (36) securing runner-up position with a nett 63, just edging Ladies Captain Sandra Davies (26) into third on the countback.

 

In the Gross division, young Connor Parry continued his impressive form with a four over 72. Past Captain Gary McKay secured second on the countback from Terry Broadhurst with a 76.

 

The Club team played a friendly match against Shropshire neighbours Mile End G.C., narrowly losing 4 ½ to 2 ½ . A mention has to go to loyal Lakeside member Pete Philpott who achieved an eagle 2 (nett albatross1) on the tricky 7^th hole.

 

Entries are now being invited for pairs to enter the 18-hole greensome pairs championship Saturday with tee-off times available throughout the day.

 

 

Robert Aldridge and Diana Naylor won the weekend’s Drayton Cup mixed event with 40pts, winning on a countback from Andy Cale & Ann Downes Evans. Dave Jones & Jayne Mitchell were third, also with 40.

 

The Seniors P.R. Ford Trophy was won by Graham Moss with 35 points. Second was Trevor Morris with 34pts and a further point back was Peter Johnson.
