Lads and dads formed winning combinations at Welshpool Golf Club’s successful AM/AM competition at the weekend.

The glorious weather and a course in superb condition resulted in some fine scores for the team of four event, with two Stableford scores to count on each hole.

The family partnerships of Marc and Tomi Bowen, and Gareth and Max Williams accumulated an incredible 94 points (22 under par) to finish seven points clear of Richard Jones, Andrew Watkins, Steve Trow and Mark Roberts in second. Lionel Weaver, Steve Morris, Mick Curley and Rob Beach were third.

The best mixed team with 76 points was Ann Newell, Ethel Chapman, Maggie and Peter Cadwallader, while the leading ladies team with 73 points was Jane Webster (Welshpool Lady Captain), Sue Jones, Nicky Jones and Debbie Jones.

Generous prizes were donated by Boys & Boden, Kier Construction, Llanymynech Golf Club and Greene King Breweries. The Club said it is hugely grateful for the generous support and sponsorship.

Lakeside

Meanwhile, at Lakeside, Captain, Charlie Brown, won his own Captains Away Weekend held at Carden Park. Charlie accumulated 60 stableford points over two rounds to finish two points clear of Alan Davies in second with Robert Weaver in third, a further shot back.

The club’s Captain’s Cup was won by the previous captain, Steve Owen, (pictured receiving the cup from Charlie Brown) after he shot an impressive nett 62 to win on the countback from Peter Sheppard.

Brendan Weaver’s 72 was the lowest gross on the day.
