PE staff at Welshpool High School have revealed plans for the new sports facilities and most should be completed when pupils return to school after the Summer break.
“Exciting times ahead” the staff tweeted. “Here’s a sneak preview of our new sports facilities. Work starts on Monday.”
The improvement scheme being carried out by Powys County Council is to compensate the school for the loss of its Salop Road Playing Fields – the site of the new Church In Wales Primary School. Only one junior football pitch remains on that site.
The facilities include a new drainage scheme, a grass football/rugby pitch while tennis and netball court areas will be completed on coloured smooth concrete.
A six lane grass running track and 100m straight are included and a 3-4 lane running track on the concrete. Run up for long jump area will be a rubberised artificial surface.
Work on new changing facilities and toilet blocks is already well underway.
