Davies wins first marathon

Forden’s Andrew Davies has picked up his first ever marathon win, recording a year’s best time for his age category in the process.

Davies covered the Running Grand Prix marathon at the Bedford Autodrome in a superb time of two hours, 17 minutes and 12 seconds, finishing a whopping seven minutes clear of his nearest rival.

The time was the fastest this year in the Veterans 40 category, showing that the college lecturer is still at his peak.

“Delighted to win my first road marathon after 25 attempts!” he said. “Massive, massive thank-you to @RunThroughUK for putting on a fantastic (and safe) event & their volunteers.

“Great to do a marathon each year for 15 years in a row now.”

Last month, Davies overcome the disappointment of his main priority for the season being cancelled - November’s World Long Distance Mountain Running Championships in Lanzarote - by winning the Chester Half Marathon.
