Technogroup Welshpool manager Graham Evans has denied ‘tapping up’ players in his bid to bolster his squad for the Huws Grey Alliance season.
Evans inherited a club this summer which had no players after last season’s squad abandoned ship, but he performed miracles to field a side for the weekend opener at GAP Connah’s Quay. A match they eventually lost 6-0.
And despite local rumblings from rival clubs, the former Guilsfield manager insists that he has done nothing wrong in obtaining new signings, including a pair from Four Crosses.
“I don’t want to fall out with any local teams and I can reassure any manager that I have done nothing wrong,” said Evans. “Players have been ringing me and I have been telling them to speak with their managers. I have not been tapping up any players.”
Evans has been back in the transfer market again this week, signing up John Harris from Cefn Druids and goalkeeper David Jones from Newtown, who was on the verge of signing for his native Guilsfield who picked up ex-Telford stopper David Maguire instead.
“Nothing against our current keeper Gary Foster who is a great keeper but we were offered the chance to sign David which we took,” said Evans.
This weekend Evans takes his side on the road once again to Deecide, this time to Flint Town United, with a squad of 16 before they have a 10-day break and a chance for him to make more new signings.
