Andrew Davies narrowly missed out on qualifying for the Wales Commonwealth Games team for Birmingham 2022 by just 20 seconds in London today.

The Forden college lecturer finished the Olympic marathon trials in a time of 2:15.50 to claim a brilliant seventh spot in the elite men’s race held in Kew Gardens, but it was just shy of the qualification standard of 2:15.30.

Davies, the national M40 record holder, was hoping to push his personal best time of 2:14.36, but it wasn’t to be.

Welsh teammates Dewi Griffiths and Joshua Griffiths managed to make the Commonwealth Games qualifying time, finishing fourth and fifth respectively, but both missed out on the Olympic mark of 2:11.30.
