Record breaking double act

An astonishing double act saw the Llanidloes batting records tumble at Coton Hall in the Henshalls Shropshire League Division Six.

Rarely has a decision to put the opposition in to bat backfired so spectacularly, as Rob Davies (right) came in at number four to smash an incredible 203 not out, which included five sixes and a four in one single over.

It relegated opener Adrian Foulkes’s (left) unbeaten 101 to a supporting role, but the pair combined for a whopping 300-run partnership.

Llanidloes compiled a massive total of 358-2, leaving Ryan Jones (5-24) to lead the bowling charge as the hosts were dismissed for 94 in reply.

Llanidloes sit second in the league behind Shrewsbury III.

Meanwhile, Newtown found runs hard to come by at Chirk in Division One, with a mid-order partnership from Tom Foulkes (26) and Sam Cooke (29) the only scores of note as they stumbled to 110-9 off their 45. Chirk only needed 30 overs to knock them off with five wickets lost.

Montgomery’s run chase fell 13 runs short as they went after Knockin & Kinnerley’s 184 in Division Two.

Aaron Ruff-Cock had taken 5-53 to restrict the visitors, but despite his 35 and Rob Bennett’s 34, Monty were dismissed for 171 to slide into the bottom three of the division.

Paul Chapman (57) and Patrick Davies (51) combined in mid-order to steer Welshpool through to an exciting victory at Frankton in Division Three.

Earlier, Davies took 5-39 as the hosts posted a decent target of 189-8 which seemed out of reach as early wickets tumbled. But the pair combined for a strong fifth wicket partnership that eventually enabled Welshpool to secure victory in the 39th over with two wickets to spare.

Guilsfield & Llandrinio’s stay at the top of Division Five ended following defeat at Column.

Steve Griffiths (46) and Martin Owen (36) produced a 100-run third wicket stand as Guilsfield made it through to 152-7 from their 40 overs. But despite the best efforts of Allan Williams (3-35), Column secured victory in the 37th over for the loss of seven wickets.

Welshpool II were well beaten at Beacon III in Division Seven, being dismissed for 73 chasing 108-9.
