14/07/2021 @ 11:23

An unbeaten 90 from opener David Williams saw Guilsfield & Llandrinio through to victory in Shropshire Cricket League Division Five, opening up a 46-point lead at the top in the process.

Visitors Beacon II batted well on their way to setting 172-8 from 35 overs, but the Guilsfield reply remained on track throughout and victory was eventually sealed with 10 balls to spare.

Ally Laird took 5-26 as

Newtown’s

tremendous form continued with a six-wicket win at Wellington to maintain their promotion charge in the Division One.

Laird ripped through the host’s tail to reduce them to just 118 all out, enabling the batsmen to cruise to victory for the loss of four wickets in the 37th over.

Laird completed a fine all-round performance with a 35 top score and Tom Anderson added an unbeaten 30.

Welshpool’s batsmen got them off to a strong start in their Division Three encounter with Harpers, but their 188-9 wasn’t quite enough to defend against a strong visiting batting response.

Tom Bowen (51) and Nick Davies (49) laid the foundations for a decent Welshpool total, but the visitors eventually made it home in the final over with four wickets down.

Newtown II were handed a victory after Willey II pulled out of their Division Five match.

Llanidloes got their promotion bid back on track with a massive Division Six victory over Pontesbury II.

Rob Davies (85) and Will Denham (69) were the main run-makers as Llanidloes raced to 291-7, before bowling their visitors our for just 30. Ryan Jones took 4-6 from his eight overs.

Montgomery II eased their Division Six relegation worries with a comprehensive nine-wicket win over Harcourt II.

David Jones took 5-17 as Monty dismissed their visitors for just 52, enabling Brian Corfied (20) to lead the charge to victory in just 16 overs.

Welshpool II kept the pressure on the top two of Division Seven after setting a target of 219-9 for Forton II to chase.

Mat Sherwood (71) and Ryan Preston (49) led the way with impressive knocks, before William Gannon (3-2) and Rupert Redway (3-17) took centre stage to reduce the hosts to 107 all out.
