Berriew win local derby

07/08/2021 @ 08:17

Berriew edged victory over near neighbours Llanfair in the FA Amateur Cup, winning 3-2.

Richard Davies (2) and Marc Jones were on target for the Rhiewsiders.

Waterloo picked up valuable MMP Mid Wales League points with a 5-1 win at Hay St Marys.

Aaron Williams bagged all four goals as Newtown came from behind to progress in the Nathaniel MG Cup.

The Robins fell behind after just 12 minutes in South Wales – as Sam Jones put his side into an early lead. However by half time they had turned the game on it’s head.

Williams scored his first competitive goal for the club from the spot on the half hour mark, before he struck again minutes late to edge Newtown ahead.

Minutes into the second period and Williams had a debut hat-trick. Fumpa Mwandwe went down in the box, and the former AFC Telford United striker stepped up to bag his second penalty of the afternoon.

And it turned out to be a game of penalties as the hosts pulled one back from 12 yards on the hour mark in an entertaining clash. But the two goal buffer was restored 19 minutes from time, as Williams grabbed his fourth goal of the afternoon to put the Robins into the hat for round three.
