Max looking to rebuild at Newtown

Wales U18 goalkeeper Max Williams says he is relishing the challenge of men’s football after signing for Newtown.

The Welshpool youngster had been training at several clubs after departing Salford City in May, and says that he is “loving it” at Newtown under Chris Hughes as he makes the step up from youth football.

“My time at Salford and speaking with ex pros and coaches, it was obvious I needed to join a set-up where I was around a first team with opportunities to compete and play for the senior team.

“The offer from Newtown is perfect for me at this time, being around the first team on match day and playing 19s football on the Sunday. I'm loving my football at the moment and look forward to what the season will bring.”

Williams last featured for Wales Under-18s back in March against England, playing 84 minutes in the 2-0 defeat.

He will add competition for the Robins No 1 jersey which is currently worn by the long serving Dave Jones.
