Welshpool Rugby Club players were left frustrated at the weekend when visitors Trefyclawdd failed to turn up for their pre-season fixture.

The Knighton club had failed to make contact with Welshpool to inform them that they were unable to raise a side for the game, with the Welshpool players and match official changed and ready for the kick-off.

"It was very disappointing," said club spokesman Andrew Thomas. "The new season is only two weeks away and we are yet to play a game. Everyone at the club was looking forward to the game but when we made contact with Trefyclawdd they were very apologetic that due to a mix-up the message had not got through to us that they were not coming."

The next game is now scheduled against Rhosllanerchrugog at Welshpool on Thursday, August 26 with a 7-30pm kick off.

Welshpool Youth team travel to Shrewsbury on Wednesday evening for a 7pm kick off.
