Adele makes World Cup bobsleigh team

She may have made her name as the top shot putter in Wales in recent years, but Adele Nicoll is gradually making her mark on the world of winter sports.

The Welshpool athlete has been training hard to become a full member of the Team GB bobsleigh team and last night she confirmed that after intensive training camps and trials in China and Germany, she has been selected to make her World Cup race debut.

“Happy to confirm that following the Bobsleigh GB #1 team trials, I have been selected to make my World Cup race debut this season!” she said whilst adding: “Not bad for a shot putter!”

“The last 12 months has been nothing but graft. This year highlighted the importance of setting smart, achievable goals, in pursuit of a greater goal.”

The Bobsleigh World Cup is a multi-race series starting in Innsbruck, Austria, on November 20 and will finish in St. Moritz, Switzerlandm on January 16, 2022.

Adele is set to take her place in Team DHL McNeill, and also had a word of thanks for the Welshpool sponsors who have supported her. These include Carpenter & Paterson’s, Chris Greatorex at Great Fitness; Rikki Lloyd Butchers, Dawson Shanahan and The Royal Oak.

Meanwhile, 2021 was her best season in the field yet with a new personal best set pushing her towards Commonwealth Games selection for next year. This week she was also named UK National Athletics League Premiership Athlete of the Year.
