World silver for Adele

Welshpool’s Adele Nicoll has won an incredible silver medal at the two-woman bobsleigh World Cup event in Sigulda, Latvia, this morning.

Adele, competing in only her second World Cup event, joined experienced pilot Mica McNeill for the sixth round event and stunned the field with two brilliant runs.

The pair were sitting in third spot after their first run, but moved up a place to second after the second run with a combined time of one minute and 42.1 seconds.

The USA’s three-time Olympic medallist Elana Meyers Taylor and Lake Kwaza took top spot in a time of 1:41.88, just 0.22 secs faster than the British pair.

Adele only took up bobsleigh last year and has been training hard all winter as the brakewoman for McNeill.

As well as thanking her local sponsors on social media, she told us after the race: "A huge thank-you to DHL for getting us to the starting block and making all of this possible."

It is a brilliant start to what could be a remarkable year for Adele who is hoping to compete at both the Winter Olympics in Beijing with McNeill, and for Team Wales in shot putt at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
