It's official. Welshpool’s Adele Nicoll has confirmed she is off to the Winter Olympics in Beijing.
Our local hero today announced that her place in the Female British Bobseligh Team had been confirmed and said: ‘This is just the beginning’.
“I entered this sport 14 months ago and haven't looked back since,” said Adele who is better known for her success as Welsh champion shot putter.
Her story so far as part of the two-woman bobsleigh world looks like this:
Invitation to Trials Oct 2020
U.K. Reserve 20/21 Season
21/22 Season Team Trials
Secured place on World Cup
World Cup Silver Medalist
Helped to secure team qualification for Beijing 2022 Olympic Games
“My highlight of the 21/22 season was our Silver victory; the first World Cup medal won by a female British bobsleigh team in 13 years.
“I've progressed this year, above even my own expectations. So each day, my ambition and love for this sport has grown stronger.
“But It's never as simple as it seems. I've dug deep and worked for this moment, every single day since Mica McNeill brought me in. I'm proud of the journey I've been on in a relatively short period of time. I've been challenged mentally and physically beyond anything I'd ever imagined.
“The road to Beijing has been a bumpy one for the team, taking it right down to the wire. We had no choice but to perform in the final World Cup race of the season, to secure our spot at the Games and we did it.
“I am so proud of us @bobsleighgirls. You girls have become like family to me.”
