As entries approach the 500 mark, organisers of the long-awaited Welshpool 10k say it is all systems go for eight weeks time.

After two cancelled bids to hold the inaugural event due to the pandemic, Adrenaline Sporting Events said that the “medals and trophies have landed” and the entry field is set to have one of Wales’s greatest ever endurance runners leading them off on March 27.

Last night, lead organiser Alan Lewis broke the news that “Andy Davies will be running the Welshpool 10k”.

“Andy has become such an iconic local figure in recent years with his incredible achievements in a Wales vest so it is a real privilege that he will be running the Welshpool 10k,” said Alan.

Andy, from Forden, is currently warm weather training in Spain ahead of his last bid at the Seville Marathon next month to qualify for Wales at this summer’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

His announcement follows the news earlier this month that celebrated Paralympian, James Roberts MBE, another international athlete with local roots, will be officially starting the race from outside Welshpool Town Hall.

Entries continue to flood in and if you would like to take part, visit https://www.adrenalinesportingevents.co.uk/welshpool-10k-running-event/ .
