It was a night to forget for Welshpool Town last night with first team and reserves suffering heavy defeats.
Pool went down 5-0 at home to Llanfair in the Ardal North East League under the Maesydre Recreation Ground floodlights while the reserves suffered a 6-1 thrashing at Llanidloes in the FAW Reserve League.
Josh Astley was again on top scoring form bagging a hat-trick for Llanfair with Max McLaughlin and Ben Jones also on target. Astley has now hit 50 goals this season in 34 appearances.
Caersws put Berriew out of the Ardal Northern League Cup thanks to a single Will Thomas goal on 51 minutes.
Newtown broke The New Saints’ unbeaten home record last night with a 1-0 win at Park Hall.
The Robins really spoiled the party after the Saints confirmed the JD Cymru Premier League championship last Saturday with Nick Rushton hitting a 31st minute winner after a mix-up in the home defence.
The New Saints had the better chances throughout but visiting keeper Dave Jones was equal to everything they could throw at him and the Robins went home with all three points and fresh hope of clinching a European spot.
