Team Wales will have an even stronger local flavour for this summer’s Birmingham Commonwealth Games after two bowlers were included in their ranks.

Hazel Wilson will manage the Women’s Bowls team that will include Berriew’s Caroline Taylor, and the pair will join Welshpool swimmer Dan Jones and shot put star Adele Nicoll in representing Wales from July 28-August 8.

“I am absolutely over the moon to be included in the Lawn Bowls Team,” said Taylor.

“It is an honour to be part of such a talented team of athletes and I can’t wait to compete in my third Commonwealth Games. Excited to be on the Journey to Birmingham 22.”

Wilson will be attending her fourth Games as the Welsh Women’s Bowls Team Manager and will be working with men’s boss Robert Weale and Steve Rees, who is in charge of the para bowlers.

“We have a great team of athletes and are all looking forward to Birmingham,” she said. “It’s been a lot of hard work to get here and this will continue up to and during the Games.

Huge thanks goes to our club, Berriew, fellow bowlers, friends and family for their support.”
