Sam Cadwallader took 5-36 and Mat McWhinnie bagged 3-25 as Welshpool moved back to joint top of Mansfield Sports Group Shropshire Division Three with victory over Oswestry II as Guilsfield’s LHG Oval.

The pair combined to reduce Oswestry to 144 all out, which was never going to be enough as Lance Parkes (68no) and Tom Bowen (50no) eased Welshpool through to a nine-wicket win.

Newtown were put to the sword at Chirk after being bowled out for just 58 in Division One.

It was a good toss to win as Newtown were put into bat but lasted just 23.2 overs, and despite a couple of wickets, defeat was inevitable.

Division Two bottom side Montgomery were bowled out for 77 chasing high fliers Wroxeter & Uppington’s 261-6. Ed Bennett was the pick of the performers with 3-48. Rob Bennett managed 32 in the reply.

Allan Williams continues to inspire Guilsfield’s climb up Division Four with tremendous figures of 6-15 as the villagers upset promotion chasing Wheaton Aston to go sixth.

Earlier, skipper Dave Lewis hit a dogged 43 to push his side through to 121, and it proved to be more than enough as Williams ripped through the Aston batting to dismiss them for just 40.

Llanidloes moved up to second in Division Five after a Daniel Lewis-inspired (4-7) bowling attack reduced Iscoyd & Fenns Bank to 102 all out.

Rob Davies (44) and Will Denham (35) then took control to steer Llani through to a six-wicket win.

Newtown II were on the wrong end of a draw as their chase for Much Wenlock’s 178 ended on 154-4 to slip back to third in Division Five. Richard Smout was unbeaten on 69.

It was a long day in the field for Montgomery II who were set a target of 226-1 by Lilleshall II in Division Six. The reply ended well short on 128.

Welshpool II were left frustrated in Division Seven after setting a strong target of 228-9 for Forton II.

Dale Evans (57) and Dave Whitehouse (48) set the tone for Welshpool, but Forton held out on 153-6 to deny full points.
