29/07/2022 @ 08:05

Welshpool swimmer Dan Jones will see his Commonwealth Games dream come true today when he competes for Wales in the pool at Birmingham 2022.

Following last night’s spectacular Opening Ceremony, the athletes get down to business today with Jones named in the Wales 4x100m Mixed Relay heats.

It will launch a busy schedule for the Welsh 50m record holder with every chance he could be competing on each day of the swimming events.

Dan’s event is at around 12.30pm, and he will be leading the team that includes Callum Jarvis, Medi Harris and Rebecca Sutton.

On Saturday, he goes in the 4x100m men’s relay, possibly as the anchor leg, and is likely to be joined by Tom Carswell, Lewis Fraser and Liam White.

The Welshpool area is well represented in Birmingham. The town’s Adele Nicoll will compete in the shot put, while Caroline Taylor is part of the bowls squad that is managed by her Berriew teammate, Hazel Wilson.

Montgomery's Tom Williams is in the Wales 7s squad that has an eye on the podium.
