The time of our lives!

They have kept us on the edge of our seats over the past few days, but the adventure is over for now for local athletes that have competed at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

Carolyne Taylor, of Montgomery, saw her run in the Bowls end in a nail-biting 16-15 pairs quarter-final defeat to New Zealand, while both Adele Nicoll (Athletics) and Dan Jones (Swimming) have both completed their programmes.

Adele, 25, admitted to being “absolutely devastated” with her “bitter sweet” appearance in the shot put final, where she finished 8th, and has vowed to come back after taking a few days rest.

And Dan, 25, ended his exhausting swim programme with four fourth-placed finishes in the relays and a credible 13th in the 50m freestyle.

The Welshpool area also saw Montgomery’s Tom Williams form part of the Wales 7s side while Berriew Bowling Club’s Hazel Wilson was Team Manager for the ladies bowls.

All of them have helped to take local sport to a whole new level, inspiring a new generation of youngsters who may one day themselves reach the world stage of major international events.
