Dan Brown’s incredible maiden century was instrumental in Guilsfield launching a final push for the Shropshire Division Six title on Saturday.Century maker Dan Brown
The 18 year-old’s (right) swashbuckling 100 not out, including an incredible nine sixes and nine fours, saw Guilsfield through to an eight-wicket victory, knocking off Shifnal IV‘s 157-7 in 23 overs for the loss of two wickets. Dave Harris kept the scoreboard ticking over at the other end with an unbeaten 33.
Earlier, Brown and Harris conspired to restrict Shifnal with two wickets apiece.
Captain Sam Griffiths described Brown’s innings as “unbelievable”.
Five divisions up and Montgomery chalked up a comfortable seven wicket victory over Alberbury in Division One.
Bowling first, Montgomery reduced the border club to 134 all out thanks to the efforts of Neil Tuffin (3-24) and Edward Davies (3-27). In-form Rob Kinsey was unbeaten on 32 and Tim Davies made 30 not out as Montgomery came home with time to spare just three wickets lost.
Welshpool lost on the pen-ultimate ball in a final-wicket thriller against Wroxeter & Uppington. Ruper Shingler (60) and Joe Birch (57) set the game alight with a great opening stand and Phil Lewis added 41 as Welshpool cruised to 207-5.
Wickets fell throughout the reply thanks to Dave Frost’s 6-63, and it went into the last over with No. 11 Scott Woodland smashing a four off the pen-ultimate delivery for victory.
Welshpool II (pictured) suffered a heavy defeat at top of the table Wroxeter in Division Five. Batting first, Ryan Preston impressed with 50 and Dave Lewis 23 but the side was all out for 110. Wroxeter knocked them off for the loss of just one wicket taken by Rob Pengelly playing his first match for seven years.
