The girls are back in town!

Ladies rugby has returned to Welshpool Rugby Club, with an appeal for more females from across the area to join in their weekly training sessions.
Whether an experienced player or a complete novice, ladies are being urged to get involved, even if it is to merely keep fit and to enjoy some camaraderie.
“We set up a Facebook Group to check the interest earlier in the summer and started training a few weeks ago and so far it has gone well,” said Emilie Pastfield who has joined other keen players to revive the sessions. “The numbers have been OK but we would like to welcome more, so, if anyone is interested – and they don’t need to have played before – then please get in touch. It is great fun with a great bunch of girls.”
Ladies rugby is not new to Welshpool but has formed and folded several times before so this time Welshpool is spreading its net to invite ladies from further afield including Llanfair and Newtown.
“It is not easy because obviously some of the younger girls move away to university and others have got wed and started families but we are hoping that this time there will be a bigger pool of players to ensure good regular turn-outs.
“At the moment we are just training in order to establish a bit of fitness and knowledge of the rules of the game. But the aim is to get a team together to play a few friendly matches. We understand that not everyone will be keen to get down and dirty and if people just want to train then that is fine as it is all support for the Club as a whole.”
Coaching is done under the experienced guidance of Nick Larder.
For more information, Emily can be contacted on 07976887716 or email: emzp81@yahoo.co.uk or the Facebook Group is called Bring Back Ladies Rugby at Welshpool RFC.
