Teresa gets it 'wright' with 60 yard chip

Teresa Wright stunned her Welshpool Golf Club Handicap Knockout final opponent on Sunday with a 60 yard chip-in on the 373 yard 18th on Sunday.

The final of the ladies handicap knockout competition was played between club secretary Teresa  and Jayne Mitchell, with Teresa chipping in from 60 yards out on the 18th hole to win after a very tight match.

The weekend saw the start of the Turkey Trails. On Saturday a Stableford competition was played over 18 holes and some excellent scores were returned.

In 1st place was Kevin Morris (16) with 44 points, 2nd place Jonathan Gamble (5) with 41 points beating John Eaton (25) also 41 points into 3rd place on countback, Dan O'Connor (19) came in 4th place with 38 points.

On Sunday an 18 hole medal was played with in first place youngster Ben Jones (18) with a net 66 and in 2nd place Harry Bowen (6) with a net 70.

The seniors played an away match at Severnside on Thursday, which resulted in a 4-1 win for Welshpool.

Ryder Cup Challenge

The Angel Golf Society and Berriew Golf Society played out their annual Ryder Cup Challenge match at Welshpool on Sunday with The Angel side regaining the trophy with a narrow 61-59 victory.

Div 3 – Andrew Paddison 88-21=67; R/up – Shaun Holloway 01-23=68; 3rd – Jim Harris 90-21=69
 
Sunday was the Finals Day for the Club Knockout competitions and the following results were recorded.
Burmah Oil Cup(Scratch competition) This 36 hole competition was contested between Steve Gauge and Lee Hitch, both 6 handicap golfers.  With the match all square after 18 holes, Steve eventually ran out as winners by 5 & 3.
 
Jasper Moon Cup( Full handicap competition).  Rob McGill(13) and Chris “Bobo” Jones(17) made the finals with several prominent scalps being achieved along the way.  After the first 18 holes, Rob had a 7 shot advantage and the match concluded on the 11th hole with Rob winning 8 & 7.
 
Percy Woods( Foursomes competition) Brian Beckett(12) and Steve Williams(21) met Ian Jones(8) and Gary Barrow(20) in this 18 holes final. A closely fought match was eventually won by Brian and Steve 2 & 1
 
Lytham Trophy(Mixed Greensomes)  Husband and wife team of Ron(9) and Ursula Marsh(31) played Mal Oakley(8) and Kath Tinsley(20) and this finished on the 17th with Mal and Kath winning 2 & 1
 
Dilys jones Cup( Ladies full h/c competition) – Gemma Vaughan(10) met Imogen Davies(18) met in this final and after 18 holes,  it went down to the extra hole before Gemma eventually won.
 
Vera Lloyd Salver ( Ladies Foursomes) – Caroline Bickford(6) and Pam Sevant(27) took on Julia Howell (10) and Gill Spicer(31) and the eventual winners were Caroline and Pam
