Berriew back to business

22/10/2010 @ 04:55

It’s been another dramatic week in Mid Wales football with Berriew’s turn to hit the headlines with the departure of Russell Cadwallader to Guilsfield.
That followed the previous week’s shocks when the Guils boss Mike Barton packed his bags for Technogroup Welshpool, leaving many scratching their heads and asking ‘whatever next?’.
But while Berriew start their search for Cadwallader’s replacement, the 43 year-old’s assistant Neil Pryce will step up to the plate tomorrow and lead the side into battle at Bow Street, looking to get their title Spar Division One title charge back on track.
“The lads were obviously downhearted and sad to see Russell go but they trained hard on Wednesday and are looking positively towards a difficult game away at Bow Street,” said former Welshpool player, Pryce. “I have been asked to take the team on Saturday, which I am happy to do. We have a few missing due to injury, work commitments and lads away at university but none have gone through the door that I’m aware of.”
Berriew were believed to have held an emergency meeting last night to discuss their next step as Mid Wales football braces itself for another tune in the management musical chairs.
Meanwhile, league leaders Llanrhaeadr head to the coast too when they look to protect their seven-point advantage at Tywyn-Bryncrug, while Waterloo Rovers take on fellow strugglers Dyffryn Banw in what could be a thrilling six-pointer.
In Division Two, Kerry’s first defeat of the season has given hope to the chasing pack and Four Crosses will hope to continue their improvement at high flying Abermule. Llanfair United are away at Bont while Montgomery will look to secure a well-needed win at home to Aberaeron. Llanfyllin Town face Llandrindod Wells while Meifod will take a rest day, knowing they could slip further away at the bottom if the result are not favourible.
The highlights in the JT Hughes Montgomeryshire Amateur League see Honda Division One leaders go to Carno Reserves while Churchstoke entertain Llanidloes Reserves. In Mitsubishi Division Two, Welshpool Reserves return to action with a tough match at home to third placed Llanfechain.
