Welshpool's lady golfers are the best in Mid Wales - it's official!
Having won the North Division of the Mid Wales Handicap league, the Welshpool ladies played the final against the South Division winners, Llandrindod Wells at Aberystwyth on Saturday in very wet conditions and came away the winners.The trophy will be presented at the Mid Wales League AGM in November.
In the Scratch League, in the first year Welshpool ladies have entered a team in this league, they came runners-up to Cradoc having won the same number of matches, losing out only on countback on the individual game results.
Saturday's Turkey Trail was an 18 hole medal competition which was won by Nick Jones (9) with a net 66, in 2nd place Mel Buxton (16) with a net 67 and in 3rd place Graham Moss (13) with a net 70. Sunday's Turkey Trail, played in very fine conditions, was an 18 hole Stableford. In 1st place was Sammy Marck (20) with 40 points, 2nd place was Les McVeigh (14) with 36 points and 3rd place Ian Spencer (21) with 35 points.
Also on Sunday the Wooden Spoon was contested between the ladies and gents which resulted in an emphatic victory for the men (the ladies must have been worn out by their exertions on Saturday!) and Captain John Wood took great pleasure in presenting the Wooden Spoon to Ladies Captain Diana Naylor. The losing team paid for the meal afterwards.
On Tuesday the Seniors held the second round of the Winter League with Don Lewis finishing on top of the pile with 36 points, Bran Edwards was second with 35 and, on count back and Derrick Arthur in third spot. In the semi finals of the Monty Robinson Knock-out competition John Roberts and Peter Johnson removed Eddie Cooper and Peter Sharman respectively, from the competition.

The Xmas Comp 2 was an American Greensome won by Terry Williams & Ben Davies – 75-17=58. Runners up were Andy Knott & Neil Brydon – 78 -19=59
and in 3rd place were Johnny Cleaton & Wilf Williams – 75-7.5=59.5
Rachel Pritchard – net 32 on back 9 - won the Marie Martin competition from Anne Weetman – net 33.5 on back 9.
Men’s Team of 4 AM/AM was won by Graham Griffiths, Bob Jones, Captain & Dave Anderson – 89pts. Runners -up wereSyd Pugh, Andy Don, Steve Meredith & Dave Griffiths – 89 pts' and third were Nick Roberts, Tim Hammett, Graham Roberts & Winston McLauchlan – 86 pts
The Seniors Medal was won by Griff Barker – 82-15=67 from John Cope – 92-21=71 and John Cartwright – 85-14=71.
