Junior members of Welshpool Golf Club travelled to The Celtic Manor Resort in Newport on Tuesday to take part in the first ever national finals of the Welsh Mini Masters – a new competition set up this year for young golfers who have not yet achieved a golf handicap.
In wet and windy conditions the Welshpool three (right) excelled and all came away with prizes.
The trio came through regional qualifiers where Emily Chilton and Tomos Bowen both qualified in Machynlleth in the seven and under category while Frankie Jones took the honours in Clays, Wrexham in the boys 12 and over.
At the Ryder Cup venue, Frankie won the 12 and over boys competition by three shots from his nearest competitor and has won himself a day’s coaching at the Celtic Manor golf academy by their top PGA professional.
Emily Chilton came second in the girls age seven and under, narrowly losing the top spot by just one shot, and Tomos Bowen came third in the boys age seven and under.
