COBRA win but agony for Welshpool

03/11/2010 @ 03:09

There were contrasting fortunes for the area’s two rugby clubs in the SWALEC Bowl second round at the weekend.
COBRA continued their impressive season by advancing into the next round with victory over Mid Wales rivals Llandrindod Wells but Welshpool capitulated in the last 20 minutes to lose against Shotton Steel.
COBRA scored a whopping 11 tries with a dominating second second half in particular seeing off Llandrindod Wells.
Geraint Williams, Sion Wyn Williams, Matt Jones (2), Chris Morris, Aled Davies, Iwan Vaughan, Hywel Jones, Alwyn Williams (2) and Richard Jones all crossed with Alwyn Williams adding five conversions in their 65-0 vctory.
Welshpool, however, suffered their most frustrating afternoon of a disappointing season to date. Fly half Steve Ellson caused the damage with a try, three conversions and two penalties as Welshpool let a 24-3 lead slip in the second half to lose 27-24 to the Steelmen.
COBRA 2nds completed a good afternoon for the club with a 60-0 victory over Rhayader.
