Crisis club Forden given weekend off

Newtown Sunday League Champions, Forden Utd were busy regrouping last weekend as they were given a week off to reorganise themselves following the departure of their Manager, Graham Meredith.

Now the club is seeking a new manager but will go ahead with this Sunday's league fixture.

Committee member Mike Evans said,"These are very difficult times for the club and it is so disappointing after the success of last season.

"We just want there to be a football club in the village and will do everything possible to ensure that the club carries on. Finding a new manager is now vital.

"We are very grateful to the league for allowing us a week's grace to regroup."

Angel Welshpool travelled to Churchstoke to provide them with some opposition instead of Forden, and they thoroughly enjoyed their trip, coming home 7-0 winners. Goals came from Luke Weaver (3), Neal Bebb (2), Stuart Buckley-Robins and Chris Barker. That win ensures the Angel stay clear of the Crown by a single point, but the Crown have a game in hand.

At Montgomery there was no letting up as the Crown heaped more points on their aggregate advantage by thrashing their Oak Llanidloes visitors 10-0. Goals were scored by Gareth Bromley (3), Tom Evans (4), Ross Frame (2) and Alex Bromley.

Third placed Elephant Llanidloes are happy to be so high up, but they are well out of the running as the League has clearly become a two-horse race. The Elephant were surprised to see a short-handed Abermule outfit turn up, and that soon reflected in the score as the Elephant ran amok, 15-0. Scoring for the Llanidloes side were Adrian Foulkes (4), Nicky Bray (2), Dean Phillips (2) and one each for Dan Richards, Nigel Crisp, Neil Pugh and Paul James. Whilst Abermule were busy defending for 90 minutes, they also managed to score three own-goals.

There was a rare battle at Newtown where the Grapes entertained Angel Newtown in a very entertaining fixture which finished 3-2 to the Grapes, but their Angel visitors deserved something from the game. Leading through a Marc Foulkes goal, and then through a 30 yard strike from Drew Hughes, the Grapes were shocked to see their guests come back to 1-1 and then 2-2 with strong play and strikes from Gary Harlock and Alex Wilson. The match was put safe late in the second half when Stefan Rowlands hit a screaming 30 yarder to win the match for the Grapes.

An unexpected win at Caersws for the Red Lion as they climbed above Churchstoke Reserves to 8^th position after a close 2-1 win against Elephant Wanderers for slip to fourth as a result of this loss. Paul Young struck for the Wanderers, but he was out-gunned by goals from Ryan Jehu and David Moody. They will be looking for another giant killing this weekend as they entertain the league leading Welshpool side.
