Welsh Cup dilemma for Cad

05/11/2010 @ 12:00

Guilsfield manager Russell Cadwallader faces what should be every manager’s dream scenario but says it is a nightmare trying to pick the side that will take on Rhos Aelwyd for a massive Welsh Cup third round tie.
Cadwallader watched his new unit put in one of their most disappoint ting performances of the season last week against Caersws, launching his reign with a 2-0 defeat, and it has given plenty, if not too much, food for thought ahead of this weekend’s encounter.
“I have got a squad of 18 good players who are all available and Chris Roberts will be coming in after this weekend so there are some difficult decisions to be made,” said Cadwallader. “I have been hugely impressed with the quality and the attitude of the squad since I got here. But my job now is to settle on a system and a squad of 16 as soon as possible but, before I can, all players need to have the chance to impress.”
He admits changes are likely to the side from last week with the Guils reverting back to a 4-5-1 formation from the 4-4-2 line-up that started against Caersws.
A passage through to the fourth round would bring considerable financial reward for Guilsfield, who reached the quarter final of the Welsh Cup three years ago.
Meanwhile, Technogroup Welshpool are without a match but manager Mike Barton has called the players in for training, still reeling from an injury time goal that cost him his first point in a nine-goal thriller last Saturday.
“It was a bizarre game,” he said. “We equalised in the last minute then showed our naivety by trying to push for a winner and then got caught. It was very frustrating but certainly a step in the right direction in terms of commitment and performance.”
The Central Wales Cup has decimated the Spar Mid Wales Division Two programme with only Four Crosses in action against Talgarth; but in Division One, the top of the table shoot-out continues with Berriew travelling to Aberystwyth University, and leaders Llanrhaeadr at home to Newbridge. Waterloo Rovers look to continue their climb through mid table at home to struggling Presteigne who picked up their first win of the season last week, while the team they beat, Dyffryn Banw, entertain Carno under new boss Ian Roberts.
