Roberts debut goal boosts Guilsfield

14/11/2010 @ 07:24

Chris Roberts marked his Guilsfield debut by scoring the second as his new side recorded their first win for at Llandudno in the Huws Gray Alliance.

The club has suffered a run of five defeats in six matches but four of those have been by the odd goal, so it was understandable that Cadwallader felt that only some ‘fine-tuning’ was required.

Roberts went straight into the side and doubled Guilsfield’s lead after Ross Frame had opened the scoring. Frame added a third late in the second half to mark the village’s return to winning ways in style.

It was a tale of two managerless sides at Technogroup Welshpool who welcomed a Llangefni team whose boss Lee Dixon quit hours before kick-off.

It galvanised the visitors though who romped to an 8-3 victory with only Dan Tolley (2) and Lee McElmeel scoring for the hosts who are expected to confirm a new manager this week.

It’s becoming a two-horse race in the Spar Mid Wales League Division One after both Llanrhaeadr and Berriew won.

Just one-point separates the two after Llanrhaeadr kept another clean sheet to beat Dolgellau 3-0, meaning they have conceded just six goals this season.

Berriew chalked up their fourth win in a row under Neil Pryce who described their last half hour as “superb”. Trailing 1-0 at Tywyn Bryncrug, super scorer Will Thomas bagged two and Christian Webber added another for a hard-earned 3-1 verdict.

Three clubs are bunched behind on 22 points with Llansantffraid Village one of them following their thrilling 4-3 victory over fading Bow.

Dyffryn Banw snapped their worst streak since joining the league with an impressive 3-2 victory over inconsistent Llanidloes thanks to goals from Carwyn Jones (2) and Bryn Jones. But there was disappointment for Waterloo Rovers who went down 3-2 at Penparcau.

In Division Two, Montgomery marched back to winning ways with a thumping 6-0 win at Aberaeron to put them right back in the mix. The goals were shared among Stuart Buckley-Robins, Ross Harris, Gaz Bromley, George McNamee and Luke Tanner with an own goal accounting for the other.

Four Crosses had to work hard to keep their unbeaten run together with a 4-3 win at bottom side Meifod, while Llanfyllin overcame Bont 4-2. Llanfair’s match was cancelled.
